Bundesliga outlines new media rights packages for 2025/26 to 2028/29

January 31 – Germany’s Bundesliga has published new detail and parameters for its media rights invitation to tender for the top two leagues for the four-season cycle 2025/26 to 2028/29.

While the match schedule structure remains close to its current “tried and trusted” format, what is new is that a single buyer will be allowed to secure all four of the big money pay-tv rights packages on offer.

The tender for German-speaking territories “includes options for all Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches, as well as the relegation play-offs and the Supercup”.

One difference in the way the packages are bundled is that Friday and Saturday matches will be in placed together as to the previous pairing of Friday with Sunday. The Bundesliga is also opening up a new 7.30pm broadcast slot on Sundays “to reduce the burden on German participants following the expansion of the international club competitions from the summer of 2024 onwards”.

In total the Bundesliga is offering seven live and eight highlights packages of audiovisual rights for 617 matches per season.

As part of the coverage the Bundesliga said that the number of cameras at matches will be increased to 28 to increase the content available.

At the same time there is encouragement to create non-live content, embrace new technology and broadcast formats/platforms, and to work closer with clubs on their own media content to create a more immersive Bundesliga experience.

The DFL said it expects to send tender documents to all approved companies starting in the middle of February, with the rights auction to start in mid-April.
