April 8 – Tickets have gone on sale for the 6th edition of the AFC U23 Asian Cup to be held in Qatar April 15-May 5.
The 16-team tournament will qualify three nations for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The fourth-placed nation will pay-off against and African nation for a fourth slot.
This is the second time in three months that Qatar have hosted a major AFC championship, having just completed the hosting of the Asian Cup in February.
The competition will be played across four stadiums that were used for the 2022 World Cup – Jassim Bin Hamad, Al Janoub, Abdullah Bin Khalifa and Khalifa International stadiums.

Prices for group stage match tickets start at 15 QAR ($4). For the 2022 World Cup and the Asian Cup ealier this year the Qataris used the Hayya identity card system as both a Visa and accreditation system for ticket buyers. The organisers said Hayya will not be a mandatory prerequisite to enter stadiums of the U23 Championship.
“With Qatar having claimed glory during the Asian Cup only a few months ago, we hope that this will inspire our younger players to perform well and claim a spot in the upcoming Summer Olympics. Regardless of who claims the title, I am certain that fans will be treated to magical performances on the pitch while enjoying an array of activities throughout the country,” added Al Jassim.
Qatar will be up against Australia, Jordan and Indonesia in Group A, and will open the tournament against Indonesia at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium which will also host the final.
Japan face South Korea, the UAE and China in Group B. Group C is headed by Saudi Arabia who face Iraq, Thailand and Tajikistan, while Group D sees Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Kuwait and Malaysia.
