Bayern Munich still seeking Tuchel replacement after Rangnick opts to remain with Austria

May 2 – Ralf Rangnick has turned down Bayern Munich to remain as Austria’s head coach and lead the country at Euro 2024.

The German giants sounded out Rangnick (pictured) to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, but the manager confirmed that he will remain with Austria.

“I am the Austrian team boss with all my heart,” Rangnick said.

“I really enjoy this task and am determined to successfully continue on our chosen path. I would like to expressly emphasise that this is not a rejection of FC Bayern, but rather a decision for my team and our common goals. Our full concentration is on the European Championship. We will do everything we can to get as far as possible!”

“We are extremely happy about his decision,” said OFB director of sport Peter Schottel. “We understood that he had two very attractive options and gave him time to consider everything calmly. We are proud that he chose Austria.”

In Germany, Rangnick and Austria will face France, Netherlands and Poland in Group D.

Tuchel however could still lead Bayern to European glory. Earlier this week, they held Real Madrid to a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals in Munich.

Some supporters have called for Tuchel to continue. This season, Bayern’s eleven-year domestic dominance of the Bundesliga was broken by Bayer Leverkusen.
