July 2 – Liverpool have expressed interest in buying England international Anthony Gordon, but Newcastle insist the 23-year-old England winger will not be sold.
The financial pressure on the magpies has been lifted by the £75 million raised from the sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson – deals whose price tags have raised more than a few eyebrows – meaning that Liverpool have lost the FFP leverage they had earlier in the negotiation as Newcastle looked for ways to bring their accounts within the regulation.
Gordon (pictured), formerly of Everton, is reportedly keen on a return to Merseyside though there are also reports Liverpool backed away from a deal that would have seen them send Jarell Quansah in the opposite direction.
LOSC defender Leny Yoro, 18, is being eyed by Real Madrid, with Liverpool and Manchester United also interested as they look to develop defensively this window.
Despite not fitting into either team’s transfer strategy, the young Frenchman is deemed too good to miss out on. He enjoyed a head-turning season in Ligue1 last term which has earned him admirers across the continent. Physically dominant and technically superb, the 2005-born defender has become one of the most in-demand assets in European football.
Liverpool and AC Milan are interested in signing France midfielder Adrien Rabiot following the expiration of the 29-year-old’s Juventus contract. The player has a market value of €35 million according to Transfermarkt, making him the most valuable free agent in Europe.
A move for Rabiot would not be as simple as it might seem due to his agent (and mother) being notoriously difficult to negotiate with.
Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their interest in Netherlands defender Matthijs de Ligt, 24, offering him a five-year contract as they continue transfer talks with Bayern Munich.
Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite has long been linked with a move to the Red Devils, who appear to have been put off by Everton’s £70 million asking price. United have admitted they would make another move for the 22-year-old if Everton drop their asking price, but the Toffees are under no financial pressure to sell the England defender.
West Ham are willing to pay £35 million for Wolves’ English defender Max Kilman but are ready to look at other centre-backs, with the Midlands club refusing to shift on their £45 million valuation of the 27-year-old.
