No Mbappe but French make it to the Euros final with Letexier to referee

July 12 – After all the fuss surrounding the appointment of German referee Felix Zwayer to England’s semi-final game against the Netherlands (it turned out pretty well for the English), UEFA has given the final to François Letexier from France.

An international referee since 2017, the 35-year-old has already officiated at 65 official UEFA matches including three group stage matches, including Spain-Georgia, Denmark-Serbia and Croatia-Albania at this Euros. He also acted as a fourth official at the opening match between Germany and Scotland in Munich.

Last season, Letexier refereed 10 UEFA club competition matches in the Champions League and Europa League and was the fourth official at the 2024 Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid CF at Wembley. He was also the referee of the 2023 UEFA Super Cup between Manchester City FC and Sevilla FC in Piraeus, Greece.

Letexier will be joined at Sunday’s final by French assistants Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni, while Szymon Marciniak (Poland) will be fourth official.

A look down the French dominated list of officials sees Italy’s Massimiliano Irrati as VAR support, presumably to ensure there is no errata.
