Team hotel bombed, air raid warnings ongoing, Kryvbas and Shakhtar defy safety concerns to start match

September 2 – The threat of Russian air raids forced the Ukrainian top-flight league match between Kryvbas and Shakhtar to be postponed on Sunday.

The hotel where the Shakhtar players were staying had already been destroyed as a result of the shelling of Kryvyi Rih by the Russian army, with three people reportedly killed.

Despite that, the two clubs at first expressed their determination not to postpone the match but were forced to do so after 51 minutes as a result of prolonged air raid alerts.

The visitors were leading 1-0 at the time and the game will be resumed at a later date.
