Haaland hits £200m valuation as world’s MVP

October 2 – Player valuation site Transfermarkt has named Erling Haaland as the most valuable footballer in the world, with a record-breaking valuation of €200 million in its latest Premier League update. This not only crowns the Manchester City striker as the highest-valued player globally but also marks the highest market value in the sport’s history.

Notably, these valuations do not account for inflation.

Haaland earned the increase with a blistering start to the season, netting 10 goals in six league games, including back-to-back Premier League hat-tricks in matchweeks two and three.

The 24-year-old has even outscored several Premier League teams so far this season, including City rivals Manchester United. Given that Haaland already holds the record for most Premier League goals in a single season (36 in 2022/23), his current form is even more ominous for opponents.

Other notable risers include Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán, whose valuation surged by 75% to €35 million after his impact as a super-sub, scoring four Premier League goals in just 157 minutes of action. Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh also saw a 75% leap to €28 million, partly justifying his hefty summer transfer from Newcastle United to Brighton for €35 million.

Additional winners in the update include Ipswich Town’s Omari Hutchinson (+€11 million), Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (+€10 million), Brighton’s Georgino Rutter (+€10 million), and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, whose value doubled to €20 million following a strong start to the season.

On the downside, Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli saw a €10 million drop in his valuation after struggling for consistency in front of goal this season. Similarly, Matthijs De Ligt (Man United), Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal), Lucas Paquetá (West Ham), and Matheus Nunes (Man City) each suffered a €10 million decrease.

Wolves goalkeeper José Sá was hit hardest percentage-wise, with his valuation falling by 29% to €10 million.
