Neymar injured again in AFC Champions League Elite tie in Iran

November 5 – Two weeks after returning from an ACL injury, Brazilian star Neymar has injured his thigh in a 29-minute substitute appearance for Al-Hilal in the Asian Champions League.

In the 58th minute of Al Hilal’s 3-0 win against Esteghlal of Iran, Neymar came on but his cameo didn’t last long, departing again in the 87th minute after he went to the ground and grabbed the back of his right leg.

The match against Esteghlal was Neymar’s second appearance in the last year after he ruptured his ACL and meniscus in a World Cup qualifier with Brazil against Uruguay. He returned to action against Al Ain on October 21.  Neymar can’t play in the Saudi Pro League for now because he is not registered.

In recent years, Neymar has proven to be injury-prone. At Paris Saint-Germain he battled a variety of injuries, including a serious metatarsal injury, sidelining him often between 2017 and 2023.

Last summer, he moved from the French capital to Saudi Arabia in a two-year deal with Al-Hilal. The transfer fee was a reported €90 million. In 2017, Neymar joined PSG from FC Barcelona for a world record fee of €222 million. So far, the Brazilian has only featured in seven matches for Al Hilal.
