November 13 – Despite winning three of the four games he presided over, it has been confirmed that interim boss, Ruud van Nistelrooy is leaving Manchester United after the arrival of the new permanent head coach Rúben Amorim.
The former United legend leaves the club along with others from Erik ten Hag’s pre-existing backroom staff of coaches, trainers, and physiotherapists.
“Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach,” the club said.
“Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club.
“He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford. Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel have also departed, and we wish them all well for the future.”
In his brief tenure as the Red Devils boss, the team found their shooting boots, scoring an impressive 11 goals, and had seemingly rediscovered their joy of football after stagnating through the waning months of the Ten Hag reign.
While four matches is admittedly a small sample size, RVN leaves Old Trafford with the best winning percentage of any United manager at 75%.
Van Nistelrooy was previously the head coach at PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivise, where he had great success winning the Johan Cruyff Shield in 2022, and the KNVB Cup in 2023, however, he resigned at the end of that season citing a lack of support from the board.
The Dutchman has secured many admirers over his coaching career and with the international break coming up, which has traditionally been a period for clubs to change managers, he’ll potentially have no shortage of offers.
