November 18 – Angel City FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) are increasingly becoming the gold standard of women’s soccer have taken the next steps by truly looking to separate themselves from the pack announcing the largest dedicated performance centre in NWSL history.
This new, state-of-the-art facility designed to meet the evolving needs of professional women’s soccer athletes, will be situated on a nine-acre site on the campus of California Lutheran University in Southern California.
The venue will become the primary training ground for Angel City FC’s players and first-team staff for the next four years.
Julie Uhrman, Angel City FC’s co-founder and president, couldn’t be happier saying; “This is a major milestone in the history of our club. We are committed to building a championship-level experience for our staff and players. This new dedicated performance centre, the largest in the NWSL, lives up to our ambitions, setting a new bar for what professional athletes need to become champions on the pitch and support their needs off the pitch.”
General Manager, Angela Hucles Mangano, who knows a thing or two about peak performance having represented the USWNT, 109 times added: “From a sporting perspective, having a performance centre that truly meets the unique needs of our athletes is absolutely critical. Our players and staff have long awaited this training facility and will benefit greatly from brand-new equipment and custom spaces. These invaluable resources are essential for performing at the highest level.”
California Lutheran University which previously leased space to the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League (NFL) sees the partnership as a long-term goal.
John Nunes, President of the University, said: “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Angel City Football Club and support their growth and commitment to building an environment focused on player excellence and development. Through our multi-year partnership, we will continue to host this world-class sports team as well as provide hands-on learning opportunities for our students.”
The state-of-the-art facility will include
- -A 5,400-square-foot gym outfitted with the latest performance and sports science technology, featuring direct pitch access for streamlined training.
- Custom lockers for players, coaches, and staff, including a dedicated locker room for players under 18.
- A new hydrotherapy area with cold and hot plunge pools, as well as saunas for optimal recovery.
- A private outdoor relaxation lounge, providing a space for players to unwind.
- A 3,400-square-foot medical treatment and rehabilitation area, complete with a private recovery room, doctor’s office, and medical staff offices.
- An elevated nutrition area, where athletes can refuel with fresh, nutritious meals prepared onsite.
- A children’s playroom, catering to the needs of families of players and staff.
- Dedicated areas for pre- and post-training nutrition and supplements.
- A 930-square-foot team meeting and film room, designed for tactical analysis and team discussions.
- Offices for coaching and performance staff, ensuring seamless soccer operations.
- A fit-for-purpose content studio, enabling professional content capture and interviews.
- A custom boot wall, adding a personalized touch for players’ footwear needs.
As ACFC gears up for 2025 after a somewhat disappointing 2024 campaign, they’ll be no more excuses for a club that has a stated goal of being winners.
