St Louis City plugs in Energizer with stadium naming rights deal

November 19 – St. Louis City SC has announced a naming-rights agreement with global battery manufacturer Energizer for its new football-specific stadium, which will now be called Energizer Park.

Although the financial terms and contract length were not disclosed, such deals in Major League Soccer typically command mid-seven-figure annual valuations.

The partnership represents a significant milestone for the $458 million venue that was opened in November 2022, and which has been without a naming-rights partner since the club’s MLS debut in 2023.

St. Louis City had originally agreed a 15-year naming rights deal for CityPark with healthcare company Centene in February 2022.

Centene, however, backed out of the deal in October 2022 after only eight months as the company looked to “reshape” the partnership, although it came amid engineering problems at the stadium as it was still under construction.

The new naming rights deal with Energizer will officially take effect in 2025.

As part of the agreement, a premium seating area will also be introduced within Energizer Park. Stadium signage and branding is expected to be completed ahead of St. Louis City SC’s 2025 home opener.

The club has enjoyed remarkable success since its entry into MLS, with sellouts at all 34 home matches to date.

“Energizer is one of the most well-respected, recognisable brands in the world and is part of the fabric of the St Louis region,” said St Louis City chief executive Carolyn Kindle.

“Energizer aligns with City SC in so many ways – it’s an innovative brand that delivers and embodies long-lasting energy, equaling the passion and energy of our fans on matchdays, and through this partnership shows its commitment to improving the St Louis region.”

Energizer Holdings president and chief executive Mark LaVigne stated: “This is truly an exceptional moment for Energizer as we find new ways to engage our community, connect with our consumers, and expand the reach of our iconic brand.

“MLS and soccer in the U.S. are experiencing tremendous growth, especially as North America prepares to host the FIFA World Cup in 2026. We are thrilled to be part of it all with City SC.”
