November 27 – The mayor of Vratsa in Bulgaria, Kalin Kamenov, has announced the city is in the early stages of planning to build a new stadium on the site of the Hristo Botev Stadium, which is currently the second-largest operating stadium in Bulgaria.
Kamenov gave no details about the project. The new stadium is currently used by Botev Vratsa FC, but it is in need of repair and cannot be used at its full 25,000 capacity. Built in 1948, it has undergone several major reconstructions to date.
It is still unclear where the financing for the new stadium will come from and how much it will cost.
“The new stadium will be created with the approval of the Bulgarian Football Union. Options for the construction of several sports facilities in the country have been discussed, one of which will be in our city, but the preparation of the project for the new acquisition in the regional center is still pending. The new stadium will be built on the site of the current one. It will be modern, contemporary and much more compact than the one we have at the moment. It will have a reduced capacity so that a lot of space can be freed up, which can be optimally separated,” said Kamenov.
“The idea is for all spaces in the stadium to be usable – to have a hotel, smaller training halls, a gym, a press conference hall, preparation halls, classrooms, a commercial area. So that absolutely the entire area will be usable and all this will allow it to be self-sufficient. Adding up the volume of the stadium, a lot of space will be freed up. However, in order to have a new stadium, there are European requirements for parking cars near it. This means that the area in front of the stadium, where the swimming pool and part of the alleys are, will be optimized.”
