Top scoring Suarez (aged 37, goals 25) signs for another year with Barca’s old boys at Inter Miami

December 2 – At 37-years-young, Luis Suarez is proving that age is indeed a number as he signed a contract extension with Major League Soccer’s (MLS), Inter Miami, that will see him remain in Florida until the end of the 2025 season.

The former Liverpool and Barcelona striker, hit a purple patch in South Beach becoming the club’s top goal scorer with 25 in all competitions as Inter Miami won their first MLS Supporters’ Shield.

It is clear that Suarez couldn’t resist the opportunity to play with his former teammate, and new head coach, Javier Mascherano.

“I’m very happy, very excited to continue for another year and to be able to enjoy being here with this fanbase, which for us is like family,” Suarez said.

“We feel very, very connected with them, and hopefully, next year, we can bring them even more joy.”

Meanwhile, the president of football operations Raul Sanllehi called the Uruguayan international one of the “greatest strikers of all time” and is delighted to be bringing him back for another year.

“He performed at an elite level for us, and we’re excited to see that continue next season,” he said. “Luis was not only our leading scorer this season, but also a leader for the group. His impact cannot be understated.”

Incredibly, Suarez played in 37 matches across all competitions in 2024, including 27 in regular-season play, after previously complaining that he couldn’t get out of bed after matches with his previous club, Grêmio.

Whether this is a testament to his attitude and love of the game, his ability to look after himself physically, or the deference that opponents pay him will be fully put to the test in what potentially will be his last season as a professional.
