Kosovo’s Erjon Morina dies after suffering training ground heart attack, aged 22

December 13 – Kosovan and Vushtrri FC player, Erjon Morina, died on Thursday after being in intensive care for more than a month. The 22-year-old forward suffered a heart attack during a training session with Vushtrri FC at the end of October.

Since then, medical teams have been fighting for his life, but unfortunately yesterday the football player’s father confirmed that he had died in hospital.

” You filled our hearts Erjon! We will live filled with the most beautiful memories for you! You will be the star that will always shine on us,” wrote Ilir Morina.

The football federations of Kosovo and Albania expressed their condolences to Morina’s family.

“It is with deep sadness that we received the news of the passing of your beloved son, the talented FC Vushtrri footballer, Erjon Morina. The loss of Erjon has deeply affected us, not only as a football community but also as a society,” wrote Agim Ademi, President of the Kosovan FA, in a letter to the Morina family.

“His untimely departure from this world has ended his youthful dreams and promising career, leaving behind a huge void in the hearts of all of us.”

The president of the Albanian Football Federation Armand Duka said: “Our hearts go out to the Morina family, the Vushtria Club, his friends and teammates, who are experiencing this great and unexpected loss. Erjoni, although young, left a great impact on the world of football and will always be remembered for his passion, energy and love for the sport.”
