Udinese’s redeveloping Bluenergy Stadium awarded UEFA Super Cup 2025 final

December 17 – Udinese Calcio’s Bluenergy Stadium has been confirmed by UEFA as the venue for the Super Cup 2025, marking the competition’s first venture on to Italian soil.

The selection of Bluenergy Stadium, announced following the UEFA Executive Committee meeting on Monday, comes after the Udine city council approved a comprehensive redevelopment plan for Stadio Friuli last week.

The stadium was opened in 1976 and currently boasts a capacity of 25,144 after two renovations – one in 1990 and later a three-year project ending in 2016.

Since then, the stadium has hosted the Italy national team on four occasions, most recently in October 2024, and served as the stage for the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship final.

“Following the UEFA Under-21 Championship final in 2019 and four important fixtures involving the national team, Bluenergy Stadium and Udinese Calcio are honoured to host what I would call an epic encounter,” said managing director Franco Collavino.

“This event is not only a milestone for sports but also a momentous occasion for the city of Udine and the entire Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, underscoring the central role sport plays in our community. We are fully committed to delivering an exceptional event, and it’s important to note that the Udinese project continues to prove its ability to attract prestigious events while elevating the region’s profile. We extend our gratitude to FIGC and UEFA for their trust and are confident that we will honour it by hosting the Super Cup in one of Europe’s most innovative and forward-thinking stadiums.”

The Stadio Friuli renovation project aims to transform the stadium into a ‘vibrant, multifunctional hub for sports, culture, and commerce’.

“The Stadio Friuli represents one of the most important assets of our city, a place where sport expresses itself at its highest levels, bringing the image of Udine to an international stage,” said Udine Mayor Alberto Felice De Toni.

“With the Stadio 2.0 project, our city will be increasingly at the forefront by making available to fans and citizens a structure among the most complete in Europe.”
