February 3 – Atlanta, which has just completed the hosting of the College Football Playoff National Championship, has turned its attention to the 500-day countdown to the 2026 World Cup where it will host eight matches, including a semi-final.
“Atlanta has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to deliver world-class events that showcase operational expertise, innovation, and the unique culture of our city,” said Dan Corso, President of the Atlanta Sports Council and FIFA World Cup 2026 Atlanta Host Committee.
“As we approach FIFA World Cup 26™, we remain committed to collaborating with our stakeholders across the public and private sectors to ensure this global event drives meaningful impact for Atlanta, the state of Georgia, and the broader region.”
Atlanta organisers said that they will unveil key milestones to engage local, national and international audiences including launch of its Host City Poster and other artisitic initiatives, and a special celebration with a year to go on June 11.
Before 2026, Atlanta is hosting six matches in the Club World Cup 2025. In 2026 Atlanta will host five group stage games and three knockout rounds, including a semifinal match on July 15. Also in 2026 the city will mark the opening of the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center, which will serve as the U.S. Men’s National Team’s home base during the competition.
Atlanta’s big event thirst will also see it host Super Bowl LXII, and the 2031 NCAA Men’s Final Four.
