Draw for Women’s Futsal Asia Cup in China plots route to inaugural world finals in Philippines

February 7 – Hosts China have been drawn in the same group as Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei and debutants Australia for the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup to be played May 6-17.

The draw, held in Hohhot, China, paired reigning champions Iran with Vietnam, Hong Kong, China and the Philippines (also making their debut) in Group C.

Japan, looking to win the title for the first time after two runners-up finishes, will meet Thailand, Indonesia and Bahrain in Group C.

This will be the third edition of the AFC Women’s Futsal Cup. The first edition was played in Malaysia in 2015, and the second in Thailand in 2018. Iran won both titles.

The third edition was initially scheduled to be held in Kuwait in 2018 but was cancelled due to covid.

This year’s finals will qualify three teams for the first Futsal Women’s World Cup that will be held in the Philippines later this year (exact dates to be released). The Philippines have qualified as hosts.

Group B: IR Iran, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Philippines

Group C: Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Bahrain
