New UCL ball celebrates Munich as ‘gateway to the Alps’

February 11 – As the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds get underway, adidas has revealed the ‘Pro Ball Munich’ – the official match ball for the remainder of the competition, including the final in the Bavarian capital.

Taking inspiration from Munich’s status as the gateway to the Alps, the ball’s design features the Champions League stars in white alongside hexagons in green and copper—colours drawn from the city’s rooftops and historic buildings.

Within the panels are subtle references to Bavaria’s cultural and natural heritage, including the Alps, the Palatine Lion, edelweiss flowers, the Waldlerhaus, the English Garden, and even hops—well, this is Munich after all.

But this is no mere museum piece, with the ball incorporating the latest in football technology.

The PRISMA surface, with its debossed pattern, enhances precision and swerve, while the outer texture provides better grip and control. A newly developed CTR-CORE ensures accuracy and maintains shape retention, even under the pressure of Champions League action.

Sustainability has also been a key focus, with bio-based materials such as corn fibre, sugar cane, wood pulp, and rubber incorporated into the ball’s construction. A zero-waste bladder made from renewable, natural rubber further reinforces adidas’ commitment to reducing environmental impact.

In addition, adidas continues its partnership with Common Goal, pledging 1% of global net sales from its footballs, including this one, to support social initiatives in underserved communities.
