February 13 – Adana Demirspor’s board of directors have turned down the resignation of club president Bedirhan Durak (pictured), who quit after the Turkish side walked off the pitch during their Super Lig clash against Galatasaray at the weekend, causing the game to be abandoned.
Durak said he had tendered his resignation “for the sake of my club, my loved ones and my health”, following Adana Demirspor’s protest against Turkey’s Referees’ Committee and Football Federation 30 minutes into Sunday’s match, while trailing 1-0 to a penalty.
However, Durak then had a meeting with club owner Murat Sancak, at which he was informed that his resignation had not been accepted, and so he would continue as president.
Durak said: “Following the decision we made as a club regarding the unfair refereeing of the Galatasaray match, the negative criticisms made towards our club, the brutal insults we heard and the accusations directed towards our management, I announced my decision to resign on my social media account on the morning of the match.
“During our meeting with our chairman, Mr. Murat Sancak, I was informed that my resignation was not accepted by the board of directors and that it would be more beneficial for our club if I continued as the club president.
“In this case, where our board of directors does not accept my resignation, I would like to announce that I will continue my duties at my club from where I left off, for the interests of our glorious Adana Demirspor, my emotional attachment to my club, my belief in our players and staff, our chairman Murat Sancak’s determination towards me and my great respect and love for him.”
