February 19 – The Saudi Pro League (SPL) has landed another heavyweight commercial partner, with global electronics giant Samsung signing on as a Gold Partner in an initial short-term deal running through the 2024-25 season.
With Saudi Arabia’s football ambitions showing no signs of slowing down, the SPL’s latest tie-up adds a touch of high-tech prestige. Samsung’s sponsorship aligns with its growing presence in the Kingdom, where the company has been securing major business deals beyond the football pitch, including a $7.2 billion gas plant expansion project and a nationwide rollout of Samsung Pay late last year.
Samsung is no stranger to football sponsorships, having previously been a long-time Chelsea sponsor and a backer of various Asian Football Confederation (AFC) competitions. This latest move signals the brand’s deepening ties with Saudi Arabia’s sporting landscape and its commitment to strategic sports investments in the region.
The SPL’s commercial roster already boasts some heavyweight partners, including real estate giant Roshn (title sponsor until 2027), the Saudi Tourism Authority, PepsiCo, and Medgulf.
Mohammed Basrawi, SPL General Manager of Marketing & Communications, said: “We are excited to welcome Samsung as a Gold Partner of the Saudi Pro League. This partnership reflects our commitment to working with global industry leaders to enhance the league’s growth and deliver the latest in technological innovation. We look forward to a successful collaboration that will bring new experiences to the SPL and its fans.”
For Samsung, the SPL’s rising profile is an attractive proposition. Sami Khairalla, Senior Director for Mobiles Samsung Saudi Arabia, said: “Football is a passion shared by millions, and we are proud to partner with the Saudi Pro League to support the sport’s development in the Kingdom. Samsung is committed to innovation and excellence, and through this collaboration, we aim to elevate the experience for supporters and contribute to the continued success of the SPL.”
Meanwhile, on the pitch, the 2024-25 SPL season runs through late May, with Al Ittihad currently leading the title race.
