French men’s players make ‘WO=MAN’ equality statement

March 10 – Every player in the top two men’s divisions in France celebrated International Women’s Day at the weekend with ‘WO=MAN’ imprinted on the back of their shirts instead of their names.

The French league initiative centered on the fight against sexism.

“The message resonates as a strong statement,” the LFP said in a statement. “Highlighting the importance of gender equality, not only on the field, but also in the stands.”

The French league has been working all season to make stadiums safer for women with a system for reporting sexual and gender-based violence.

Shirts worn by the players will be sold from today with profits going to three partner organizations working with LFP.
