March 21 – Dutch club Ado Den Haag have confirmed that the proposed acquisition by businessman John Lageman has been called off.
Despite extensive discussions with the Eredivisie club and receiving approval from the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB), the Dutch businessman has decided to withdraw from the takeover.
Lageman is the founder of the software company Validsign, used for digital signatures, and had intended to acquire 60-70% of the club
The Vierhouten family will continue as the majority owners of the club, maintaining a 90% share. Former chairman Hans de Vroome will also retain his 10% stake in the club.
Commenting on his decision to step away, Lageman stated: “I had to make this decision with a heavy heart. Throughout this process, I realized that my vision for the club’s financial direction does not fully align with that of the management.
“I greatly appreciate the efforts and involvement of all parties, but ultimately, I concluded that it is better not to proceed with this step.
“This was not an easy decision. Go Ahead Eagles is a fantastic club with a great fan base and a rich history. Things are going well in the Eredivisie, the cup final is coming up and there is a strong foundation for the future. I will continue to follow the club closely as a sponsor and supporter.”
