AC Milan spread their brand in Asia by launching first youth academy in Hong Kong

April 1 – Asia continues to be the most fertile market for European clubs to spread their brands and Italian giants AC Milan are leading the way by officially launching their first youth academy in Hong Kong.

The announcement demonstrates the club’s long-term goals to develop grassroots football in Asia and conveniently coincides with the club’s confirmation of a pre-season fixture against Liverpool, bringing back memories of Istanbul 2005, when the Reds famously beat the Italians in the Champions League final on penalties.

Milan are looking at this as part of an overall development strategy that sees a mix of football education, community engagement and, of course, branding in the region’s fastest-growing sports market.

The Hong Kong Academy will provide programs for young players aged six to 17. Aside from technical training based on Milan’s youth curriculum, personal growth, teamwork and values will also be highlighted.

Ultimately, the training center is being viewed as a community platform that will promote the Rossoneri’s football identity and values through education and grassroots events.

With Liverpool also a huge draw in Asia, the newly-opened, 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium is sure to be packed on July 26, when the clubs meet for the first time since that legendary final.
