Brazilian referee and assistants among match officials for Women’s Euros

April 1 – UEFA has confirmed the 13 referees who will take charge at Women’s EURO 2025 in Switzerland this summer. The tournament, running from July 2 to 27, will feature a hand-picked selection of Europe’s top match officials alongside a special guest from South America.

Among the standout names is France’s Stéphanie Frappart (pictured), one of the most experienced referees in the women’s game, having officiated at both men’s and women’s World Cups.

The full list of European referees who have been selected (in alphabetical order) are: Catarina Ferreira Campos (Portugal), Iuliana Demetrescu (Romania), Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi (Italy), Silvia Gasperotti (Italy), Désirée Grundbacher (Switzerland), Stéphanie Frappart (France), Marta Huerta de Aza (Spain), Frida Klarlund (Denmark), Katalin Kulcsár (Hungary), Ivana Martinčić (Croatia), Tess Olofsson (Sweden), Alina Peşu (Romania).

As part of UEFA’s ongoing partnership with CONMEBOL, Brazilian referee Edina Alves Batista and two assistants will also be involved, strengthening ties between European and South American football.

Each match will have a referee, two assistant referees and a fourth official, while VAR teams will operate remotely from UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, ensuring consistency throughout the tournament.

To prepare, UEFA has said that all of the selected match officials will attend an intensive training course at its headquarters before the competition kicks off.

UEFA’s managing director for refereeing, Roberto Rosetti, said: “As we prepare for UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 in Switzerland, we are extremely pleased to see the continuous growth of our top female referees, reflecting the remarkable development of women’s football as a whole.

“As always for a EURO, the best and most consistent referees have been selected. Notably, all of them have passed the same fitness test we conduct for the elite men’s referees. We have full confidence in them and their assistants, as well as the video officials, to show their quality at the final tournament.”
