Unbeaten PSG secure 13th Ligue 1 title with six games to play

April 7 – Paris Saint-Germain sealed their 13th Ligue 1 title – and 11th under Qatari ownership – with a 1-0 win over Angers on Saturday, extending their domestic dominance with a remarkable season-long unbeaten run and clinching the championship with six matches still to play.

Désiré Doué’s second-half volley was enough to secure the win at a sun-soaked Parc des Princes, where celebrations erupted as Luis Enrique’s side officially confirmed their latest crown. PSG now have 23 wins from 28 games, remaining undefeated in what has been one of their most commanding league campaigns to date – despite the exit of talisman Kylian Mbappe at the start of the season.

It marks the capital club’s 11th Ligue 1 triumph since Qatar Sports Investments took control in 2011, adding to the two titles won in 1986 and 1994. Under Luis Enrique, PSG have returned to a fluid and attacking style of play that has earned plaudits beyond their traditional fanbase.

“The fans are so proud of us and we gave them this title,” said Luis Enrique, who was hoisted into the air by his staff at the final whistle. “The fact that other football fans, who are not PSG supporters, appreciate our style of play is a huge honour for us.”

The players celebrated with a lap of honour in front of the Auteuil stand after the final whistle, with supporters basking in a festive atmosphere.

Despite the result, PSG were made to work by an Angers side fighting to avoid relegation. Goalkeeper Yahia Fofana made a standout save to deny Vitinha in the first half, and it wasn’t until the 55th minute that the breakthrough came — Doué converting a perfectly placed cross from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Ousmane Dembélé, Ligue 1’s top scorer with 21 goals, came off the bench in the second half but was unable to add to his tally.

The title win sets up the possibility of a second consecutive domestic double for Luis Enrique, with PSG scheduled to face Reims in the Coupe de France final on May 24.

While PSG continue to dominate domestically, their long-standing ambition remains European glory. The Champions League, a trophy that has eluded them despite years of investment, remains the benchmark. Next up is a quarterfinal clash against Aston Villa, with the first leg taking place in Paris on Wednesday.

Elsewhere in Ligue 1, the race for Champions League qualification continues, with Monaco visiting Brest and Lyon hosting Lille later on Saturday. However, with no consistent challengers emerging this season, and second-place Marseilles losing three of the last five games, PSG’s path to the title has rarely looked in doubt.
