April 17 – Former Argentine great Carlos Tevez is planning his farewell game in Buenos Aires, and hopes to include former teammates Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
His plan is to play his final match at Boca Juniors’ home ground, La Bombonera. Regarding this potential meeting of football royalty, Tevez told streaming platform Olga, “Yes, I’m going to do it [farewell game]. I probably will do it. We just have to figure out when. It’s not easy. We’ll get them together.”
Nicknamed “El Apache,” Tevez played with Ronaldo at Manchester United, most famously winning the UEFA Champions League with CR7 on a rainy night in Moscow as the Red Devils beat Chelsea on penalties in 2008. During their time together at Manchester United, Tevez and Ronaldo formed a lethal attacking partnership, helping United secure a domestic and European double.
Meanwhile, Tevez’s relationship with Messi spans multiple World Cups with their beloved Argentina from 2005 until 2015. What many fans don’t know is that during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Tevez and Messi shared adjoining rooms and would often stay up late discussing tactics, with Tevez later crediting these conversations as crucial to their on-field chemistry.
Tevez, 41, enjoyed a career that spanned twenty years, including stops at Corinthians, West Ham United, Manchester City as well as United, Juventus, and a brief spell at Shanghai Shenhua, where he reportedly earned $650,000 a week while considering it “a holiday.” He began and finished his playing odyssey with his beloved Boca Juniors.
Should he secure the services of both Messi and Ronaldo for his farewell match at La Bombonera, that famed old ground will bounce one more time for El Apache.
