August 6 – Concacaf has signed a three-year partnership with Honduran snack company Snacks Yummies, and its Taqueritos brand, which becomes an official sponsor of the Concacaf Central American Cup.
August 1 – Former England manager Steve McClaren is quitting Manchester United’s backroom staff to become head coach of Jamaica’s men’s national team on a two-year deal.
July 30 – At the age of just 14 and one day, McKenna ‘Mak’ Whitham became the youngest player to feature in any major professional soccer league in the USA when she came on in the 80th minute for NWSL team NJ/NY Gotham FC.
July 26 – Concacaf has changed its match schedule and venues for the on-going Men’s U-20 Championships in Mexico after a police officer was murdered outside a team hotel in the city of Celaya.
July 24 – Canada’s Alphonso Davies and Jamaica’s Khadija Shaw head the list of Concacaf nominees for its men’s and women’s player of the year awards.
July 11 – Gregg Berhalter has been fired by the U.S. Soccer Federation “with immediate effect” following the US’s disastrous performance at the Copa America being hosted in the US and which they exited at the group stage.
July 10 – Has there ever been a bigger mismatch for a place in the final of Copa America? Argentina, the current World Champions, versus Canada, a country that has qualified for just two World Cups and has never won or tied a game at either event.
July 9 – Having led Canada to a surprise semi-final place in the Copa America, Jesse Marsch said he didn’t need success to prove his ability after he was fired by Leeds United in the English Premier League and then overlooked by the U.S. Soccer Federation.
July 9 – NWLS side San Diego Wave FC, only in their third season of competitive action, have denied accusations that made against them and club president Jill Ellis (pictured) of creating a hostile workplace.
July 9 – Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league – the Norther Super League – that kicks off next April, has appointed Christina Litz as its first President, while founder Diana Matheson will take on the role of Chief Growth Officer.
July 4 – The biggest football supporters’ group in the USA have jumped on the bandwagon by calling on Gregg Berhalter (pictured) to step down following the team’s damaging first-round elimination from the Copa America.
In 2026 the US and Mexico will take the lead with their Canadian neighbours in hosting the World Cup. While the football people in those countries will have only a limited role in the organising (FIFA want to do everything themselves, it’s their ball apparently), to most people worldwide the perception will be that the countries are hosting.
July 2 – The USA were controversially dumped out of the Copa America last night after a 66-minute goal that could easily been called offside was awarded in a VAR review, handing a 1-0 victory to Uruguay.
June 28 – The US soccer federation has condemned online racist abuse of their players after their 2-1 defeat by Panama at the Copa America.
June 20 – Much has been made of the Copa America in the US being a test event for the 2026 World Cup, but there has not been so much comment about the importance of the event for six Concacaf nations competing as they build their teams towards 2026.
