September 9 – African football has been plunged into more commercial turmoil and intrigue after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) issued a letter on September 1 cancelling, with immediate effect, a $415 million broadcast contract with beIN Sports that has four years still to run.
September 5 – FIFA is “closely monitoring” events in Mali after Mamoutou Touré (pictured), a FIFA Council member, clinched re-election as president of the Malian Football Federation (Femafoot) while awaiting trial on charges of embezzlement in a prison cell.

August 30 – African football’s governing body has revealed details for a slimmed-down Super League, the ‘African Football League’, that will see eight clubs compete in 14 matches for the new prize.
August 29 – Saudi Arabia will host the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup, scheduled for September 15, in the city of Taif at the 58,000 capacity King Fahd Stadium, home of Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
August 23 – Mali’s sports ministry has asked FIFA to investigate the electoral process of the country’s football federation, Femafoot, warning of potential “disturbances to public order”.

August 9 – World players union Fifpro has stepped in to help the Super Falcons of Nigeria in their pay dispute with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to pay wages as well as Women’s World Cup prize money. The NFF called Fifpro’s intervention a “storm in a teacup.”
July 26 – FIFA has issued an invitation to tender for centralised media rights to Africa’s 2026 World Cup qualifying matches ahead of the largest CAF World Cup qualifying in history.
July 14 – The inaugural and much debated African Super League, which has had its name changed to African Football League (AFL), will start on October 20, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed at its general assembly in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Thursday.
July 11 – FIFA has lifted its 18-month suspension of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) just days before the draw for the African qualifying competition for the 2026 World Cup.
July 7 – The South Africa Football Association (SAFA) says a pay dispute with its Women’s World Cup squad has been resolved after a charity set up by Confederation of African Football president and billionaire businessman Patrice Motsepe stepped in.
